Venice

Known around the world as “Venice Beach”, this beachfront community has become one of the hippest places in to live inLos Angelesarea. Venice is now a part of the city of Los Angeles with two zip codes that service the area – 90291 and 90294.

Originally founded in 1905 by millionaire businessman Abbot Kinney, his newly built resort town of OceanPark was eventually incorporated into the City of Santa Monica.  Moving his sites slightly south, Abbot Kinney, envisioned turning the swampy land near the ocean into a place much like that of another coastal city,Venice,Italy.  He even went as far as to build canals, complete with gondolas, to complete the homage to Venice,Italy.  There was an amusement park and a pier and crowds flocked to the beach every weekend to experience all the fun and excitement of the coastal town of Venice,California.

Venice has had its ups and downs, but now, over 100 years later, it is once again home to an eclectic mix of people who define beach life in Los Angeles.  Anyone searching for a home in an area of Los Angeles that embraces the diversity of the city and celebrates the very best of the moderate climate, will find themselves right at home in Venice.

There are many neighborhoods within Venice, California and each have their own distinct atmosphere and attitude.  The Boardwalk or “Ocean Front Walk” area of VeniceBeachhas direct access to the sand, shops and promenade that parallels the ocean.  Street performers line the sidewalks and athletes work out on the world famous “Muscle Beach” of Venice,California.  Tourists and locals both visit the pier for beautiful sunset vistas across the Pacific Ocean.

The “Silver Triangle”, the “Walk Streets”, “the Canals”, Oakwood and “East Venice” are also very popular areas to live in Venice. Lincoln Boulevard bisects Venicef rom North to South.  Abbot Kinney is a very popular street for those searching for exciting shops and restaurants.   The world famous “Gold’s Gym” is located just off Main Street.

Many artists and musicians call Venice home.  Notable residents have included legendary actor and artist Dennis Hopper, actress Angelica Houston, crossover R&B artist Teena Marie, The Doors frontman Jim Morrison, John Lydon (better known to fans as “Johnny Rotten”) of The Sex Pistols,  and grafftti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Venice is served by Los Angeles Unified School District schools.

The neighborhood is served by Coeur d’Alene Avenue Elementary School, Westminster Avenue Elementary School, Short Avenue Elementary School, and Broadway
