Studio City and Sherman Oaks are two of the most affluent and desirable areas within the San Fernando Valley area of the city of Los Angeles.
Rich with Hollywood history, Studio City was founded in 1922. Hollywood hot-shot Mack Sennett saw an amazing opportunity in the Valley and he built his own studio in the a sprawling area of farmland. Renamed over the years, it is now known as the CBS-Radford Studio and many of America’s favorite sit-coms, dramas and movies are filmed behind the gates in the sound studios and on the make shift streets.
Studio City is centrally located to Burbank on the east, Universal City and Hollywood to the southeast, the Hollywood Hills, West Hollywood and Beverly Hills to the south, Sherman Oaks and Encino to the West and North Hollywood to the north. Zip codes for Studio City include 91604 and 91607.
Famed Mulholland Drive is the southern most border of Studio City. Below it, in the hills, lies the upscale communities of Laurelwood –featuring the Dona Streets, may of which offer gentle canyon or jetliner views of the San Fernando Valley. Fryman Canyon is just north of this area. It is a shady enclave of homes, many of which offer estate sized lots, perfect for celebrities looking for a private retreat close to the studios and recording studios of Studio City, Burbank, Universal City and Hollywood. Famous residents include George Clooney, Teri Hatcher and Jeff Probst. Great hiking trails weave throughout the mountains here and one can hike through from the park entry on Laurel Canyon to Tree People on Coldwater Canyon.
Some residents prefer tree line streets with sidewalks on flat land. Colfax Meadows, Tujunga Village, Valley Village and many other areas offer the best that Studio City has to offer.
Serviced by Los Angeles County Unified School District, there are three elementary schools within Studio City including Rio Vista Elementary School. Carpenter Avenue Elementary and Colfax Charter Elementary School consistently rank near the top of all LAUSD elementary schools. Reed Middle School and North Hollywood High School accommodate older children and young adults. Please consult the Los Angeles County School finder to see which school services each address.
Many of the most revered private schools in the Los Angeles area are located in Studio City. The Emerson Academy, Campbell Hall Episcopal School, Oakwood School (the elementary campus only), Harvard-Westlake School (Upper School only), and Bridges Academy are but a few of the options.
Ventura Boulevard runs east to west throughout the city. One can find great shopping, restaurants and facilities along Ventura Boulevard, Tujunga and Moorpark.
Weddington Golf and Tennis on Whitsett Ave just south of Ventura Boulevard is a local favorite for sports and fun.
